I was aware that it would snow and it may be heavy, but I took it with a pinch of salt (like I always do when people tell me what the weather will be like, unless they say it will rain at which point I assume it isn’t just going to rain- it will pour). But today it has snowed. Like really snowed. This picture is my garden this morning, and from continuous snow throughout the day that layer covering the ground has gradually thickened. I hate snow because it makes everything cold, and then it turns everything icy and/or goes into disgusting sludge. But there’s no denying it ain’t pretty… and you know, chucking snowballs at someone is the most undeniable fun.
So anyway. The day began like always: trudging to school. Today I walked slower than usual so I could take pictures on my phone for my dad who is away right now. He is currently experiencing the beautiful South African summer and complaining; wishing he was here instead because apparently “too hot”. Man, I wish I remembered how 30 degrees felt like! Now I have to put up with the cold. And today was freezing. But you know, despite the fact it makes you cold snow is so pretty. And everywhere it was pure white: at 8:20am the snow is much undisturbed which makes it even more beautiful cause’ it’s so perfect still. So finally arrived at school, completely numb, and there was only one bus there. Clearly, today was going to be a bit all over the place. There’s schools closed all over the place today but my school had to stay open…like always unfortunately. It was stupid because the snow threw everything out of sync. Everyone was high which was the main thing to make today feel random but it was also pretty disorganized because people had to get in despite the weather semi-blocking them off (we live in the countryside :D). In the morning we had extended registration, at lunch they somehow thought it would be possible to keep everyone indoors so they weren’t causing trouble in massive snowball fights (stupid healthy and safety again) although that didn’t really work and again lunch time registration was extended. At this point my friends set a good example to the younger years and went outside to play in the snow :P It was still snowing at this point- it only stopped for small intervals throughout the day. It was amusing to see those who stood still for so long get this thick layer over them like they were slowly becoming part of the landscape XD
The ironic thing happened in the afternoon when suddenly the fire alarm went off…and the entire school was sent outside!! haha. So much for keeping everyone indoors. We all thought someone had set it off but for once it was an actual fire. It’s really bad though because no one takes fire bells seriously anymore. We take our time… in a real life event we possible will burn XD But this one was real, even though it was only a small fire in the restaurant. So a big waste of time (and it’s cold standing around outside! I felt especially sorry for those coming from PE in just shorts and Tshirts) Even though it was completely ironic and awesome timing.
The fire alarm only made the day even more random than it already was. But after one more lessons it was home time. And me and my friend had a huge and completely fun snowball fight walking home. She had the advantage because she was wearing gloves so of course I was doomed. But even though my hands went sore from the cold I still made sure to get my revenge. Oh wait, I started it. Muhahaha.
But yes. Once home I stayed indoors. And that was that. Snow is a) cold and b) once it turns to ice and/or sludge ugly and annoying but hey, today was pretty fun. Snow is or seems to be still a huge fascination in this country, which is probably why the UK was so unprepared (it’s al over the news now). Because it’s pretty rare to get snowfall like this. It has snowed before in this winter, but not like this. This is really heavy and tomorrow morning I have a feeling it’s going to be absolutely gorgeous.
